Karma kicks like a horse. But it can reward you too! Discover new Pivotal JDK support, Ryzen’s 3rd Gen, GitHub Sponsors, and much more!

Karma and virtue, my fellow coders,

This natural balance of good & evil forces exists everywhere, especially in the tech world. In fact, it’s thought that the entire internet resembles a yin-yang logo. Within it, people programme with positive intent, whereas others are more malicious.

Our exclusive ‘Zen issue’ contains a treasure chest of examples. New programming languages, new alternatives, new circuits, new libraries – new forces are arriving to restore some balance to a comically unbalanced world.

When a player becomes too powerful, it becomes intoxicated on that power. And so, a new force of sobriety restores order to the world. Such is now the case across the tech-o-sphere. Oracle’s misstep backfires, with new alternatives now available. Innovative products and even a revolutionary sponsorship initiative are the joys for which we’ve all been waiting.

This week, you’ll experience nothing but positive technological karma, flowing right in your direction.

Go ahead, hackers, read on – you’ve earned it!

Namaste,

dan

Dan ‘the Man’ Kowalski

1. Pivotal Counterattacks Oracle

The best things in life are free, or at least offer a perpetual license. Oracle disagreed, hence their controversial changes to JDK distribution policies. Pivotal stepped into the ring, offering OpenJDK distribution with ongoing support, Spring projects support, and Apache Tomcat Java server support. The balance is again restored.

2. Rusty – But Far from Old!

A brand-new version of Rust is out now! The all-incredible 1.35.0 rendition features library stabilisations, countless new implementations: FnOnce, FnMut, and Fn closure traits for: Box<dyn FnOnce>, Box<dyn FnMut>, and Box<dyn Fn>. Detailed info can be found on GitHub, and in the link below. Rust has never felt this fresh!

3. Arduino Brings Us FPGA

The Ferrari of circuits, the MKR Vidor 4000 is the first Arduino boasting a powerful FPGA. Smart, but never arrogant, this Italian stallion boasts a camera connector, and micro-HDMI connector, for fast camera and screen compatibility. The FPGA will soon use a Visual environment for further simplicity. This gamechanger will rock your world, come release time, on the 15th of June.

4. Playtime with Ryzen’s 3rd Gen

This one is for our Gamers! AMD is celebrating its 50th anniversary at Computex 2019. So, how better to celebrate than with AMD Ryzen 3rd Generation processors? Higher core counts, faster clock speeds, and lightening efficiency. There’s no better time to build a gaming PC. While ‘Positive vibes’ aren’t officially listed in the specs, we have a feeling they’re included.

5. UI Generation with JetPack

More than just a thrilling title. Based on the sneak-peak of the source code, we’re ecstatic. Its potential paves the way for how future developers will write Android applications through simplicity, and a whole heap of better design. Jetpack compose API is a step-up from current Android development – surf the wave of progress now!

6. I GitHub With a Little Help from my Friends

Giving back is now easier than ever in the tech community. And with Open Source software powering our increasingly pluralistic world – GitHub Sponsors lets you support their future successes. GitHub will even match contributions up to $5,000, during a developer’s first year in GitHub Sponsors. Give a little, boost a lot!

Editor in Chief

Hackers of the world dream to be him. And that’s an understatement.

With methods decades ahead of cyberspace, he’s proceeded only by his own reputation. ‘The Man’ infamous for single-handedly causing the ’08 global financial meltdown, he dropped off-grid searching for purpose.

He twice-dominated each of the Himalayan peaks, negotiated the rift valleys of Africa, and swam the Amazonian Basin end-to-end. It was in Siberia where we caught up to him – convincing him to work for the ‘good guys’.

The veteran’s veteran of coding, now confidently within our ranks, is finally a force for good. Just don’t test him.
